Firmware Design Engineer Specialist (10/09 - Present)

• Helped to port Embedded JetDirect firmware to Windows CE 6 running on x86 and ARM architectures. This includes porting low-level OS and hardware abstraction layers all the way through high-level network client and server applications. This was primarily accomplished in C using GCC and Visual Studio 2008. I helped to implement HP ePrint, and owned the Microsoft WHQL process.

Firmware Design Engineer Specialist (3/09 - 10/09)

• Implemented secure e-mail with HP multi-function printers running Windows CE 6.0, and implemented using smart cards such as Department of Defense Common Access Cards for authentication on printers. This included programming in C, C++ and C# using Visual Studio, and includes such technology as Kerberos, SSL, LDAP, CIFS, CCID, PC/SC and others. I created the original design and helped with the implementation, including porting OpenSSL and several OpenSC modules to Windows CE 6.0, and helping to port OpenLDAP and Heimdal Kerberos, and then supporting all of these for several releases. My design allowed our printer security modules written for Windows XP to run transparently on Windows CE 6.0.

Firmware Design Engineer Specialist (10/08 - 3/09)

• Engineered JetDirect firmware for printers with embedded networking on the Windows CE and Windows XP Embedded OSes on the X86 and ARM architectures. This is primarily programming in C, C++ and C# using Visual Studio. I designed and implemented the IP configuration backbone, and I implemented several other modules as well.

Firmware Design Engineer Specialist (7/05 - 10/08)

• Engineered JetDirect firmware for printers with embedded networking, which run on VxWorks, LynxOS, Windows CE, Windows XP Embedded and Linux, and run on many architectures including MIPS, ARM and ColdFire. This is primarily programming in C and C++ using GCC in HP-UX and Linux and proprietary development tools.

Software Design Engineer Specialist (5/00 - 7/05)

• Helped design and implement a standardized API that allows code assets to be compiled and run on any platform that implements the API. I created the test harness, and implemented the API on Windows, Windows CE and Linux. The Windows versions were created using Visual Studio. The Linux version was created using GCC. My API implementation is included in the Windows Vista and 7 Print Monitor and in the HP Universal Print Driver.
• Program manager and lead engineer for a test management and execution suite implemented as a web service, which is used to test all network-connected IPG devices (printers, print servers, projectors, copiers) as well as ProCurve routers, switches and hubs. Worked in Java and C using Eclipse, Visual Studio, GCC, and created installers with InstallAnywhere. Created custom Java implementations of the following servers and protocols:
  BOOTP, DHCPv4, DHCPv6, HTTP/HTTPS, SSL, FTP, TFTP, SMTP, Syslog, Telnet, Radius (including EAP-TLS, TTLS, PEAP and LEAP modes, and the common cipher suites DES, 3DES, SHA and MD5), NetWare NDS and Bindery (including full NCP emulation with authentication and encryption), LPD, and WINS. Each module includes test hooks so error conditions can be created that are difficult or impossible to create on production servers. Worked with many network technologies, including: IPv4, IPv6, IPX, DLC/LLC, 802.11a/b/g/x, Bluetooth, AppleTalk, IPSec, HTTPS, SSL, SLP, UPnP, SQL, RMI, SNMP v1/v3, SOAP, XML, IXA, HTTP, HTTPS, HTML and JavaScript. Created IPX and AppleTalk network stacks for Java, and created a way to send and receive raw network data to and from Java. JNI modules were implemented in both Windows and Linux. This tool continues to be the primary test tool for JetDirect products.

Firmware Design Engineer Specialist (6/97 - 5/00)

• Engineered JetDirect firmware, working with the IPX stack, SNMP, PML, FTP, Telnet, network I/O, printer I/O, and embedded OS. These were developed in C, C++ and Motorola 68000 assembly using HP-UX GNU C and proprietary development tools. I initially lead the Novell team, and later became one of three experts for the original JetDirect architecture. In that role, I helped to design the next-generation JetDirect architecture.

Bush) for my contributions.

Volunteer work on the Stella and Virtual 2600 open-source projects, porting them to the Amiga architecture.

Worked in after-school programs and summer day camps mentoring kids in kindergarten through 8th grade for over 2 years.

Worked at a privately-owned computer retail store as a sales representative, and also performed computer setup, installation, maintenance, upgrades, troubleshooting and repairs.

Have organized and held 5 LAN gaming parties per year since July 2000, and I manage a weekly online gaming group. This includes maintaining servers, web pages and a LAMP-based sign-up system.
